Opening Night Gala Benefit and Opera Ball for the Lyric Opera of Chicago took place Saturday, Oct. 5. A near-capacity audience of 3,3000 attended the benefit performance of Guiseppe Verdi’s Otello, with a reception at the Civic Opera House preceding the performance & during intermission. The Opera Ball at the Hilton Chicago featured a Grand March, elegant dining, and dancing for some 550 guests to the music of the Stu Hirsch Orchestra. The evening raised approximately $900,000 for Lyric programming. The event was a project of the Women’s Board of Lyric Opera of Chicago. The Opening Night Chairman was Corinne Wood of Lake Forest. Opera Ball Chairman was Mrs. William A. Osborn of Winnetka and the Women’s Board President is Mrs. J. Christopher Reyes of Lake Forest.
