Let the games begin.
That phrase usually is reserved for the Olympic games, which were created in Greece. Greece was also home to the first modern Olympic games in 1896.
So perhaps that’s the best way to welcome in this year’s Coming Together in Skokie program, which held its opening ceremonies Jan. 27 at Niles West High School. For the next six weeks, Skokie will host an exhaustive series of events all revolving around the culture of Greece.
From book discussions and author appearances to films and plays, from field trips to authentic Greek cuisine, Coming Together in Skokie promises to have a little something for everyone.
The opening event, which drew many to Niles West Sunday, included a gallery of Greek art, a plethora of Greek cultural performance and a few Greek refreshments along the way. People in the audience hit the Niles West stage to participate in Greek dance for the closing number.
By the end of March, Coming Together in Skokie will have hosted more than 50 events exploring Greek culture.
