Mall manager is newest economic development official

LINCOLNWOOD — Kirk Moffitt’s current job at one of Lincolnwood’s biggest businesses seems a good fit for someone in his latest position.

The newest member to join the Economic Development Commission, Moffitt was appointed by Mayor Jerry Turry at the Lincolnwood Village Board of Trustees meeting last month. Moffitt was hired as the general manager of Lincolnwood Town Center in August and has worked for Simon Property Group, Inc. — the real-estate management company that owns Lincolnwood Town Center — for seven years.

A seasoned professional in shopping-center management, Moffitt was director of operations for Gurnee Mills mall before coming to Lincolnwood Town Center.

He replaces former EDC member and Lincolnwood Town Center general manager Greg Stevenson.

Moffitt, who lives in Evanston, is one of nine members appointed to the EDC by Turry. He is the only member who is not a Lincolnwood resident, but because he works for a Lincolnwood business he is eligible to sit on the EDC, reported Carrie Dick, deputy village clerk.

The EDC comprises local business and community leaders who meet once a month and serve as an advisory body to the village board.

“As general manager of Lincolnwood Town Center my job is to oversee and manage the center on a financial level, and that also includes leasing, marketing and operations oversight,” Moffitt said. “Lincolnwood Town Center has a lot of development plans in the works, and as a member of the commission I’ll serve as the center’s voice.”

Moffitt said there are no large-scale development plans in the works for Lincolnwood Town Center, but shopping-center officials are focusing on ongoing smaller, core-development projects such as repaving parking areas, landscape and sign upgrades, floor work and repainting.

“We’re always searching for ways to become a better mall, and being a part of the commission will help us have a voice in the Lincolnwood community,” Moffitt said.

One other vacancy on the EDC left by former member Seth Snyder has yet to be filled, Dick said.

The EDC meets at 8 a.m. the fourth Wednesday of the month in the council chambers room at Lincolnwood Village Hall, 6900 N. Lincoln Ave.
