Lincolnwood trustees OK exception for group home

LINCOLNWOOD — A request by Misericordia Home to move forward with plans to build a group home that would house eight developmentally disabled women at 6501 N. Longmeadow in Lincolnwood was approved on a 5-1 vote by Lincolnwood trustees this month.

The “yes” vote essentially means representatives of Misericordia Home have been granted an exception in a village ordinance prohibiting group homes in the community through a “reasonable accommodation” text amendment approved in March after more than a year of discussions that at times sparked heated debates among the community.

Village attorneys now have the green light to draft an ordinance allowing plans for the group home to progress.

That ordinance is expected to be ready by today’s (Sept. 4) Board of Trustees meeting.
