Skokie, Lincolnwood police blotter for Aug. 2, 2012

The following incidents were listed in the official reports of the Skokie and Lincolnwood Police Departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt; only a court of law can make that determination.

Skokie

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Eugene W. Gatson, 22, of 1822 Crain St., Skokie is due in court Monday on a domestic battery charge stemming from an incident at about 4:31 p.m. July 23 on the 8000 block of Knox Avenue. Police said Gatson allegedly hit a woman in the face. Police said as they started to put handcuffs on the suspect, he pulled away and ran west, trying to jump over a fence. He fell and then did not try to run again, police said. He was also cited with resisting a police officer.

Yury Milailovich, 43, of 4625 Davis St., Skokie, was due in court Monday to appear in court July 30 on two counts of domestic battery and one count of assault stemming from an incident between 4:25 p.m. and 4:34 p.m. July 22 at his home. Police said Milailovich was at Zhivago’s restaurant, and after drinking, he began yelling profanities when he was asked to leave. He allegedly hit two women and pushed one of them backward and onto the bedroom floor when he returned home, police said.

Baltzorig Altangerel, 41, of 4911 Crain St., Skokie, was due in court Monday on a domestic battery charge stemming from an incident between 9:57 p.m. and 10:35 p.m. July 25 on the 4900 block of Crain Street. Police said Altangerel allegedly punched a woman in the chest with a closed fist. He also was charged in a separate disorderly conduct incident a few days earlier.

ROBBERY

A cell phone valued at $200 and $40 in currency were taken between 4 p.m. and 4:47 p.m. July 26 in a strong-arm robbery on the 8900 block of Lacrosse Avenue. Police said three males described as 19 to 20 years old walked past the victim in the opposite direction when one of them punched the victim in the face. Knocked to the ground, the victim was asked where he had his money, police said. The males jumped on him and took the bills from his pants pocket as well as a cell phone, police said. The suspect managed to get up when he was hit by one of the males with a crowbar, police said.

ASSAULT

Two men with handguns were involved in an aggravated assault at about 2:55 a.m. July 21 on the 8200 block of Knox Avenue. Police said a woman who had parked her vehicle and was walking to her home was approached by the males. Police said one of the males called for her to come there when she threatened to use mace on them. She told police she then heard a gun being cocked and saw one of the suspects carrying a silver handgun. The suspects turned around and headed north on Knox, police said. The case is still under investigation.

HOME INVASION

Four males entered an apartment and started to punch and kick a man inside between 9 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. July 19 on the 4700 block of Main Street. Police said a woman inside the home, who began yelling and screaming during the incident, was the victim of a home invasion. Police said the males then entered a vehicle and drove away. Several people believed to be connected to the incident were later detained, police said. The victims, police said, were uncooperative and would not provide further information. They did not want the matter pursued further, police said.

BURGLARY

Sam Konstanitinov, 27, of 603 Greendale Road, Glenview, was arrested in connection with a residential burglary that occurred between 1:55 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. July 25 on the 8500 block of Drake Avenue. Police said the victim was returning home when she saw her front door partially open and heard voices coming from inside. She saw two people climbing out the north bedroom window of her residence, police said. The two suspects — one male and one female — ran east, police said, with the female holding a tote bag. Police said they later apprehended Konstanitinov, who matched the description provided by the victim, on the 8500 block of Trumbull Avenue. In his possession were $310 and change, a pair of earrings, a wallet, a cell phone and gloves. The earrings were positively identified by the victim, police said. The case is still under investigation.

Three teenagers, all 16, were questioned at about 11:54 p.m. July 6 regarding a series of burglaries to motor vehicles near the 8500 block of Springfield Avenue. Police said the teenagers, who were stopped at Greenleaf Street and Harding Avenue, were responsible for numerous such burglaries to vehicles in the area. Two suspects were seen pulling door handles of parked vehicles and walking in the middle of the street, police said. The interior of at least two vehicles were ransacked, police said. Fifteen dollars was missing from inside one vehicle. Police said the victims, however, did not want to sign complaints.

Different parts of a vehicle including an ash tray, an in-dashboard compact disc stereo, a rear bumper, a left rear tail light and trunk carpet — all valued at $1,350 — were taken between 12:18 a.m. and 12:50 a.m. July 22 from a vehicle parked on the 8000 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police said security video showed someone breaking into the vehicle. The case is still under investigation.

A bicycle valued at $25 was taken between 2:15 a.m. and 2:40 a.m. July 22 during a home burglary on the 8300 block of Keeler Avenue. Police said the victim arrived home and saw a man standing at his kitchen window. When the victim asked who he is, the suspect fled west through a gangway and toward the street. The bike that was taken was leaning against the house just below the kitchen window, police said.

An Apple iPad 2 valued at $600, a Nintendo gaming system valued at $300 and jewelry were taken between 11:30 a.m. and 4:10 p.m. July 21 from a residence on the 8400 block of Monticello Avenue. Police said the victims found their kitchen window open when they returned home. A pillow case also was reported missing from a bedroom, police said. Police said the items were taken from several rooms.

Lawn-care equipment valued at more than $1,900 was stolen between 4 p.m. June 30 and 2:30 p.m. July 1 from a vehicle parked on the 5100 block of Church Street. Police said the equipment was taken from a truck with a trailer parked at the House of Rental. A tool was used to cut an opening in a fence on the premises and then the hinge of a lock was broken to gain entry. A hammer and sharp metal object were left near the trailer, police said.

A watch valued at $6,000 was stolen between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. July 19 from a vehicle parked on the 4300 block of Lee Street. Police said the victim placed the watch inside his sport coat and left the coat on the passenger’s side front seat. Police said the victim thinks he accidentally left the vehicle unlocked.

Five spare tires belonging to different vehicles and valued at $2,500 were stolen between 6 p.m. July 22 and 7 a.m. July 23 while parked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on the 8200 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police said the cars were parked in an unsecured lot.

A bicycle valued at $200, a lawn mower valued at $130 and garden tools were taken between 10 p.m. July 24 and 8 a.m. July 25 from an unattached garage on the 8200 block of Keeler Avenue. Police said entry to the garage was made through an unlocked service door.

A laptop computer valued at $1,200 and $12 in currency were taken between 6 p.m. July 23 and 8 p.m. July 25 from a residence on the 8900 block of Lacrosse Avenue. Police said the basement laundry room window was broken to gain entry.

DUI

Casey K. Digan, 18, of 9323 Crawford Ave., Skokie, is due in court Aug. 23 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver stemming from an incident at 12:23 a.m. July 18 on the 9300 block of Springfield Avenue. Police said Digan was pulled over for allegedly driving erratically and driving with a nonworking headlight. Police said Digan failed sobriety tests. Inside the vehicle was a backpack containing bags with marijuana inside, police said. Also found were 56 small, empty bags with designs of a marijuana plant on them, police said. While Digan allegedly admitted to buying marijuana once a week, he denied serving or selling the drug for profit, police said. He also was cited with driving without headlights on, improper lane usage and failing to have proof of insurance.

Anthony A. Abbott, 33, of 653 Walnut Oaks Drive, Roselle, is due in court Thursday, Aug. 2, on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and a felony charge of criminal damage to state-supported property stemming from an incident between 5:14 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. July 26 on the 4800 block of Louise Avenue. Police said Abbott called about what he claimed was a hit and run accident. His vehicle was damaged, police said, but there was no debris on the ground or any indication of a crash where the vehicle was parked. Police alleged that Abbott changed his story and claimed he hit a sport utility vehicle in Roselle, but Roselle police said they could not located any SUV that had been damaged. Police arrested Abbott on the drunk-driving charge and for allegedly falsifying a police report after he failed a sobriety test, police said. Abbott became uncooperative, police said, yelling profanities. Inside the squad car, he allegedly pounded his forehead against the passenger’s side window and damaged the arm rest by kicking it, police said. A pipe containing marijuana residue also was found inside Abbott’s vehicle. He was cited with disorderly conduct in falsifying a police report and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

BURGLARY

A road bike valued at $1,500 was taken between 8:30 p.m. July 25 and 7:30 a.m. July 26 from a garage on the 5400 block of Brummel Street. Police said a side door was forced open to gain entry.

A bicycle valued at $343 was taken between 10 a.m. July 20 and 10 a.m. July 22 from an unattached garage on the 8100 block of Laramie Avenue. Police said a side door was left unlocked.

DRUGS

Two Skokie teenagers, 17 and 14, were arrested on drug-related charges stemming from an incident between 10:18 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. July 16 on the 8700 block of Monticello Avenue. Police said a vehicle occupied by the teenagers was pulled over for speeding and because it had only one operating headlight. Police said they found a pill bottle containing marijuana, a baggie containing marijuana and a metal pipe with marijuana residue inside the vehicle. One teenager was cited with possession of marijuana and is due in court Aug. 10; the other was cited with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, police said.

Brian Kely Ibrahim, 27, of 6301 N. Francisco Ave., Chicago, is due in court Aug. 30 on a possession of marijuana charge stemming from an incident between 1 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. July 25 on the 8500 block of Crawford Avenue. Ibrahim was pulled over for allegedly driving with an expired registration. Police said Ibrahim did not have his drivers license with him. Marijuana and a glass smoking pipe were found inside his vehicle, police said. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and cited with driving with an expired license and with expired registration.

THEFT

Carol Lynn Grant-Strathmann, 46, of 3244 Burr Oak Drive, Waukegan is due in court Sept. 5 on a retail theft charge stemming from an incident at about 1:51 p.m. July 21 in Macy’s at Westfield Old Orchard. Police said Grant-Strathmann allegedly tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at nearly $170.

A 2000 Acura Integra valued at $10,000 was taken between 11 p.m. July 19 and 7 a.m. July 20 while parked on the 5300 block of Carol Street. Police said the vehicle was parked on the street, and there were no signs of forced entry.

A teenager, 16, was arrested and released to his father in connection with a retail theft incident at 9:04 p.m. July 19 in Macy’s at the Old Orchard mall. Police said the suspect allegedly tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise valued at more than $103.

DISORDERLY

Baltzorig Altangerel, 41, of 4911 Crain St., Skokie, was cited with public intoxication, making false 911 calls and being naked in public stemming from an incident between 10:36 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 22 on the 8900 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police said Baltzorig called 911 several times and screamed incoherently into the phone. Police said the calls were traced to Baltzorig’s home, but no one was there when they arrived. A witness later saw Baltzorig wearing nothing but a T-shirt in the grassy area of a village parking lot at Skokie Boulevard and Niles Center Road. He was highly intoxicated, police alleged. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 10 at a Skokie administrative hearing.

Edwin S. Lagman, 38, of the 5400 block of Harvard Terrace, was scheduled to have appeared in court July 23 on a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an incident at about 9:45 p.m. July 21 on the 5400 block of Harvard Terrace. Police alleged Lagman was intoxicated and broke the window of a home.

Orlando Yepes, 53, of 9242 Gross Point Road, Skokie was cited with disorderly conduct for allegedly refusing to pay a $55 cab fare at 11:14 p.m. July 20 on the 7300 block of Niles Center Road. Police said Yepes allegedly was highly intoxicated and was rocking back and forth after they arrived on the scene. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 6.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS

Phuc V. Nguyen, 64, of 7943 Keystone, Skokie is due in court Aug. 30 on a criminal damage charge stemming from an incident between 3:30 p.m. and 3:35 p.m. July 20 on the 7900 block of Keystone Avenue. Nguyen allegedly admitted that he scratched a car trunk and a hood with his key because he was angry someone parked on the street in front of his home. The overall damage was estimated at $300.

Lincolnwood

THEFT

Nahrin Isho, 29, of 6432 N. Richmond Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Carson’s at 7:15 p.m. July 23. Security alleged Isho tried to leave the store without purchasing a wallet and sunglasses valued at $110.

Ana S. Flores-Diaz, 45, of 3305 N. Kostner Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Carson’s at 4:05 p.m. July 23. Security alleged Flores-Diaz tried to leave the store without purchasing sunglasses valued at $65.

Nadya Remy, 24, of 1051 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Kohl’s at 11:50 a.m. July 22. Security alleged that Remy tried to leave the store without purchasing $24 in cosmetics.

Amy Ruiz, 18, of 8153 N. Hamlin, Skokie, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Kohl’s at 7:36 p.m. July 21. Security said Ruiz allegedly tried to leave the store without purchasing $123 in clothing.

Maribel Ortiz, 41, of 4330 N. Drake Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Kohl’s at 5:15 p.m. July 19. Security alleged Ortiz tried to leave the store without purchasing $66.99 in clothing.

Adefunto Adebambo, 30, of 1628 W. Sherwin Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Kohl’s at 1:40 p.m. July 19. Security alleged Adebambo tried to leave the store without purchasing $144 in jewelry.

Maryana Zaya, 25, of 8325 Keating Ave., Skokie, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Kohl’s at 12:09 p.m. July 18. Security alleged Zaya tried to leave the store without purchasing $92 in women’s clothing.

Hung Thu Chung, 67, of 1912 W. Hood Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Carson’s at 4:25 p.m. July 28. Security alleged Chung tried to leave the store without purchasing $100 in jewelry.

Minerva Reyes, 41, of 2046 W. Estes Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Carson’s at 7:48 p.m. July 27. Security alleged Reyes tried to leave the store without buying $44 in jewelry.

Nayel Zmali, 35, of 3000 W. Addison St., Chicago, was charged with theft after his arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Carson’s at 4:55 p.m. July 27. Security alleged Zmali tried to leave the store without purchasing 17 items of clothing valued at $494.

Sana Haseen, 34, of 6352 N. Avers Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after her arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Carson’s at 1 p.m. July 27. Security alleged Haseen tried to leave the store without buying $68 in jewelry.

Larry Cooks, 55, of 7348 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, was charged with theft after his arrest at the Lincolnwood Town Center Carson’s at 12:05 p.m. July 13. Security alleged Cooks tried to leave the store without purchasing $76 in clothing.

A bicycle was reported stolen July 11 from the 6400 block of St. Louis Avenue, Lincolnwood. The victim told police that a men’s Trek black and red bicycle was taken from his back yard sometime between July 8 and July 11.

A spare tire valued at $1,300 was reported stolen from a vehicle on the 6700 block of Cicero Avenue, Lincolnwood, at 8 p.m. July 14.

BURGLARY

A residence on the 7000 block of Hamlin Avenue, Lincolnwood, was burglarized between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. July 20, according to police. Jewelry and coins valued at $1,500 were reported missing.

DUI

John Wernecke, 35, of 6432 Trumbull Ave., Lincolnwood, was arrested at 1:58 a.m. July 27 on the 6700 block of Lincoln Avenue, Lincolnwood and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Wernecke was stopped after police saw his vehicle allegedly swerving in and out of the lanes. Wernecke also was charged with improper lane usage.
