Youth in Music Festival

Mark Churchill, dean emeritus of the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division, will moderate a panel discussion on the ways young people can serve as advocates for music in society. Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center

Feb. 3-April 21: “Courage: The Vision to End Segregation, The Guts to Fight for It.” Created by the Levine Museum of the New South, Charlotte, N.C., the exhibit traces the saga of Reverend J.A. De Laine and the citizens of Clarendon County, S.C., who brought a pivotal law suit challenging racial segregation in public schools. Feb. 3, 1 p.m.: Chicago Sun-Times columnist Laura S. Washington interviews members of the De Laine family. Free with museum admission. Reservations required. Feb. 10, 1:30 p.m.: “Cello Compositions of Richard Stöhr, Persecuted Composer.” Cellist Stefan Koch, Lansing (Michigan) Symphony member, accompanied by pianist Robert Conway, will perform the rarely heard cello works of Richard Stöhr, who taught at the Vienna Academy of Music from 1901 until 1938, when he was forced by the Nazis to resign and emigrate.
