Dinner is served: Taste of Skokie Valley delivers feast

The feast of feasts served up by The Skokie Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Skokie Valley had outgrown its original space.
Taste of Skokie Valley last week changed homes but it didn’t have a long way to travel. For its first few years, the eclectic buffet offered up by a plethora of local eateries was held at the Doubletree Hotel. This year, however, it moved next door to the lobby of the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts.
The increase from 14 to 19 food vendors necessitated the change, explained Howard Meyer, Skokie Chamber of Commerce’s executive director.
“It just got too big,” Meyer said.
The annual event is the major fundraiser for both the chamber and the Rotary Club of Skokie Valley. It drew people from all over the area who paid to feast on a wide range of cuisine. The event, which includes a silent auction, generates between $20,000 and $25,000 a year and attracts a few hundred hungry donors.
The chamber and the rotary club put the money to good use, funding a variety of programs that help people in the area.
