The following items were discussed and/or action was taken on at the Village of Lincolnwood Board of Trustees meeting Feb. 7
Judy Friedman and Eve Fink were appointed to the Beautification Commission. The Beautification Commission serves as an advisory body to the Village Board and raises the standard of beautification in Lincolnwood by promoting, preserving, protecting and enhancing the natural environment and physical appearance of the Lincolnwood community.
Trustee Lawrence Elster read a proclamation declaring Feb. 7 “Charles Chuck Greenstein Day” in honor of the 85th birthday of Village Treasurer Charles Greenstein.
Greenstein was born on Feb. 5, 1927 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-46. He attended Loyola University Chicago where he was captain of the intercollegiate bowling team from 1948-50 and later coached the team from 1950-95. Greenstein graduated from the law school at Loyola University Chicago in 1953, and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1963 after obtaining his certificate from the University of Illinois. He later earned his graduate school banking certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973 before being elected to the Loyola University Chicago Athletic Hall of Fame in 1974.
Greenstein served as a commissioner on the Economic Development Commission until 2003 and resigned after being appointed Village Treasurer, his current position.
“Chuck is one of the biggest Cubs and Bears fans in Lincolnwood,” Elster said. “The Village of Lincolnwood asks all who know of his life accomplishments to send their wishes for his continued good health and happiness.”
A resolution authorizing the Village Manager to execute an intergovernmental agreement with Cook County for access of its Geographic Information System was approves by the Board of Trustees.
Having access to Cook County’s GIS System provides the Village with access to maps, database information, assessment information and geographic data. Lincolnwood has participated in the GIS Consortium since 2005. There is no financial impact on the Village.
A resolution to extend the “Professional Janitorial Services Contract” with Best Quality Cleaning, Inc. of Franklin Park for $38,760 for one year was approved by the Board of Trustees. The janitorial company has maintained a contract with the Village since 2007.
The Board of Trustees approved a recommendation by the Plan Commission to adopt an ordinance to amend the section of the Village Zoning Code pertaining to permitted obstructions in “required yards,” section 3.10, table 3.10.01.
The amendment eliminates the term “required yards” from the Zoning Code and replaces it with “yards.” Required yards are considered by the code to be portions of yards established by required setbacks. The adjustment was made due to language inconsistencies regarding the permitted locations of “yard obstructions” such as air conditioners, electrical generators, decks and other outdoor items.
Village Manager Tim Wiberg announced that all village offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, in observance of President’s Day.
Village Clerk Beryl Herman said applications for absentee voting are available for pick-up at the front desk in Village Hall. Residents who wish to receive applications in the mail should contact the clerk’s office at (847) 745-4707. The Presidential Primary Election will be held on March 20.
The next Board of Trustees meeting will be held Tues. Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at 6900 N. Lincoln Ave.
